Chinese Peranakan of Terengganu

People are always confused between Chinese Peranakan and Baba Nyoya. Not much people know about it even the internet is not providing the real information of Chinese Peranaka.

Chinese Peranakan speak Chinese and dialect instead of Malay, they have strong western influence since the early of settlement.

Dress Code is Westernized

The dress code for wedding ceremony is westernized as they were influenced by British.

Wearings

Just like baba nyoya, chinese peranakan also wear kebaya but the chinese version.

Kebaya(left), Kebaya Labuh(right)

Kebaya is the shorter one and the Kebaya Labuh is longer, both of them are word with sarung.

Kerosang

Kerosang is the not a button, it was only a decoration for kebaya. Kebaya won't be perfect without kerosang. Kerosang is the way to show the status of the family whether it's wealth or poor. An expensive kerosang can cost more than RM2k during that time as they even inlcude diamond inside of it.

The Making of Traditional Chinese Kebaya

Special sewing machine are used to sew the kebaya, the thread is slightly better quality and lighter in weight.

It take few weeks to sew a kebaya as there are alot of process involve. The material used is also very expensive. The clothes for making the kebaya was imported from Switzerland that cost around RM 300 for each piece. So each kebaya will roughly cost around RM 1,000  when it's fully finished.
