The Diverse Architecture
China Town of Kuala Terengganu have 168 units shop lots at total, 95 units of them were facing the river.
The Beginning of China Town
This is the beginning of China Town , this street stretch 1km long. We can see the Arch of China Town from here.
A tiny map of China Town was crafted on piece of wood. According to uncle Lorenz, this map costed around RM2000 for the artwork.
The Historical Alley of Memorial
This alley are the collection of antic such as the red phone booth (first phone booth in Terengganu), those old gigantic machine and also mural painting.
The design of this building was influenced by Moorish and Islamic. According to uncle Lorenz , this shop house was owned by a malay but he intended to rend out the shop house to others as he live far away from China Town with his family.
There are 4 different flower craft made by clay on the top of the window.
From left to right : Hibiscus, Chrysanthemums, Lotus and Peony
The design of the craft is actually have some meaning and uncle Lorenze is explaining to us.This wooden fence is a part of those remain as the old house was renovated into shop house.
The Cross Section
This is the cross section of the shop houses in China Town. The red part is mostly where they do their trade and the 2nd floor is room to stay , middle part is the court yard and the end is mostly the kitchen and toilet.
Most of the roof in China Town have the influence of Thai, which called as Singgora roof. The roof is covered piece by piece without using any nail.
Ho Ann Kiong Temple
This temple was built in year of 1801, the material of this temple was brought from China and this is the oldest and largest Chinese place for whip in Terengganu.
But sadly Ho Ann Kiong Temple was burned down at 2010, this photo was taken 3 years ago during the incident. No sign of sabotage found according to the investigation. The temple was rebuilt and finished at the year of 2012.
This bell is the only left after the fire, it believe to bring fortune if we knock the bell as it survived the fire.
Tian Hou Gong
Tian Hou Gong is the place of worship for dialect of Hainanese which built in the year of 1896 having 117 years of history. This temple was renovated last year and they add this gigantic Mazu(god of sea)'s statue behind the temple facing the river.
The Conservation Effort
This shop house was rebuilt with the traditional design that approved by authority, people here even willing to pay or donate their money to conserve the heritage.
This shop is also rebuilt with traditional design and it's selling Hai Nan Chicken Rice.
